~Review~

I am absolutely, unequivocally in love with this series and Piece for You was fantastic. I adored Hunter in Only for You but Genna managed to create and even finer male specimen in Griffin and knocked Hunter to the #2 spot. I love the way she mixes romance with mystery and intrigue and the development of the characters and their relationships with one another is incredible.

I really liked Sam. She was definitely a memorable and loved secondary character in Only for You so I was excited to get her story. She has been through A LOT and but what I love most about her is her strength and determination. She doesn’t back down and she won’t be intimidated. The way she opens herself up with Griffin is incredible considering everything she has been through and I was happy to see that she wasn’t completely jaded. She recognized his awesomeness and she didn’t let past experiences deter her from getting to know him better and discovering the connection that she felt. My only disappointment in Sam was her reaction to something that Griffin did. I understood her initial reaction to the situation but I felt like she overreacted a bit later on considering all she knew about him.

Griffin… Yes, his name is enough. He is such an incredible character and one of the swooniest men I have met over the last year. He is incredibly protective, sweet, charming, sexy, drive, loyal… I could go on and on. Oh yeah, he also sings and plays the guitar. I am seriously in LOVE. Anyways, enough of my gushing. Griffin has had feeling for Sam for quite some time but never found the right moment to make himself noticed. When Sam comes back, Griffin realizes he has a second chance and he takes full advantage of it. He not only wants Sam to notice him, he wants her to SEE him and boy does she. Like Sam, I was a little disappointed with Griffin during the “incident” because I felt like he could have fought harder. I understand that he made a questionable decision in an intense situation but when Sam got spooked, he gave up way too easily considering how hard he worked to get her attention. I felt like he should have fought harder to win her back and made a big gesture immediately.

I don’t want to say much about the plot so as not to give anything from the first book away for those who haven’t read it but if you have read it, you know what Sam is going through. I loved that Everleigh and Hunter are a still a huge part of this book because they are crucial in her recovery and the most important support system she has. Her parents are absolutely horrific and I couldn’t believe the callousness of her father. There was definitely no love or support there so I was happy that she had the friends she did in her life. I liked that the primary focus of this book was Sam’s journey to heal and move forward, as well as the relationship she built with Griffin. However, Genna also adds a subplot of mystery and suspense that complemented the primary plot so well and I loved how it all flowed together. I swooned over Sam and Griffin’s beautifully budding romance while curious and intrigued by who could be behind the threats to Sam. I was definitely surprised by the turn of events and didn’t expect the events that unfolded. We also met Meg, Sam’s coworker and there is a certain mystery behind her that was left open for her story and I look forward to reading it.

I really, truly enjoyed this book and I am a definite fan of Genna’s writing. She expertly mixes all of the elements that make a book work for me including interesting plot, fantastic character development and cohesive writing. Sam and Griffin have a lot of obstacles to overcome and they have their moments of discouragement and fear but they also have a connection that transcends all and when Sam needed Griffin more than anything, he was there. He would do anything to protect Sam and he proved that multiple times. Sam was a strong, independent woman and she became even stronger throughout the book. Griffin may have wanted to protect Sam, but he also fostered her strength, never holding her back or assuming she was weak. I loved every aspect of it, to the very end.

  1. Like you Chelsea, I'm a big fan of this series. I love Griffin (and Hunter!) and how they always seem to know the perfect thing to say just when it needs to be said. If only real men were as eloquent! :O
And I also really enjoyed the twists and emotional intensity of what Sam goes through, it makes a page-turner.
