The Morning Star Blog Tour: Review & Giveaway

I am super excited to have The Morning Star tour on my blog today. I have a review and a giveaway for copies of The Morning Star plus several other books.

The Morning Star
Author: Tania Penn
Publisher: Penn Pal Publishing
Release Date: January 10, 2013

Being the daughter of Lucifer keeps seventeen year old Dawn Belial busy. For almost her entire lifetime, she has been trying to think of a way to free her Archangel mother, Michaela, whom her father has held captive for centuries. She's also attending high school - balancing trigonometry, history, and recruiting souls for her father along with her wicked half-sister, Venus.

There has been no time for love until she meets mysterious Gabriel, a British exchange student. As they fall in love against their will, she discovers a startling secret about him, and a shocking connection to her mother that changes everything.

The Morning Star was a great debut novel by Tania Penn. I actually had a hard time getting into the book at first but I pushed myself to continue and I am glad I did. I felt like the beginning was a little dis-jointed and that was why I struggled to get into the story but once Gabriel was introduced and the plot started to come together, I was much more intrigued. I liked seeing Lucifer as a loving father and it was a different kind of story to see him portrayed this way. However, he is still Lucifer.

I liked Dawn and how she embraced life. Her mother is an angel and her father is Lucifer so I think working for her father was often conflicting but she handles is so maturely and she loves her father, even if he is Lucifer. Falling in love with Gabriel, a human, is really hard for her because she knows it can never truly be but she dives in head first and I liked that about her. Gabriel was so hot and cold in the beginning and I understood why but I still wanted to smack him upside the head a few times. I don't feel like we really got to know Gabriel that well in this book so I am hoping there will be a lot more of him in the next one.

Overall, this was a great read and I am looking forward to the next one. The author did a really good job of throwing in a few unexpected plot twists toward the end that kept me on my toes. There were definitely a few things that I was not expecting to happen and it fueled my need to read more. I thought she did a really good job of almost making me see Lucifer as a decent man only to re-affirm that he is the devil. I can't wait to see what happens now for Dawn and Gabriel.

About the Author:
Author of debut young adult novel, The Morning Star. Currently working on the sequel, Equinox, as well as a chick-lit, rom-com, slightly sleazy and funny story with a twist, Catching Frogs. And, because I'm loco in the roco, I've got about 12 more on the back burner. When I'm not writing I can be found kayaking, hiking, ninja-training, traveling, and taking a ferry over to the San Juan Islands to search for the elusive creature known as the "Orca." I also am constantly adding ridiculous wants, needs, must-see's and do's to my ever expanding bucket book. I covet a delicious malbec with a rare steak and make a killer salsa.

  2. I really like novels that focus on the devil/death, I find them so interesting! I'm actually happy to hear that Gabriel has a little hard to read, it means that he is probably a little more realistic than the average YA love interest. Great review!
