Review: The Secret of Ella & Micha by Jessica Sorensen

The Secret of Ella & Micha
Author: Jessica Sorensen
Publisher: Hachette Book Group, Inc.

Ella and Micha have been best friends since they were kids. But one tragic night shatters their friendship and their lives forever.

Ella used to be a rule-breaker with fiery attitude who wore her heart on her sleeve. But she left everything behind when she went to college and transformed into someone that follows the rules, keeps everything together, and hides all her problems. But now it's summer break and she has nowhere else to go but home.

Ella fears everything she worked so hard to bury might resurface, especially with Micha living right next door. If Micha tries to tempt the old her back, she knows that it will be hard to resist.

Micha is sexy, smart, confident, and can get under Ella’s skin like no one else can. He knows everything about her, including her darkest secrets. And he’s determined to bring his best friend, and the girl he loves back, no matter what it takes.
****************************************
Ella is a young girl that went through a terrible tragedy and ran away from everything and everyone she cared about. Micha is her best friend and tore up at her sudden disappearance. When she returns home after 8 months of being gone, he is determined to help her fight the demons and bring her back to him.

I really liked Ella and Micha. They were two kids from broken homes who leaned on each other for support and comfort. I liked that Ella wasn't your typical scared and vulnerable girl. She was outspoken and tough. Even though she tried to hide who she was by changing her clothes, her looks and her demeanor, she couldn't deny who she really was, especially around Micha. I loved that Micha could see right through Ella and he immediately pushed her to stop pretending and to be who she is.

I enjoyed this book and the characters. However, I would have liked the plot to be a little deeper. I felt like it only scratched the surface and there could have been so much more to the story. I felt like we only got to know Ella and Micha on a surface level and I would have loved to know so much more about them and the difficulties in their lives. We know what caused Ella to disappear but I think there could have been so much more to it. Overall, it was a very good read, the book was well written and I loved the romance between the characters.
