ARC Review: Dare You To by Katie McGarry

Dare You To
Author: Katie McGarry
Publisher:Harlequin Teen

If anyone knew the truth about Beth Risk's home life, they'd send her mother to jail and seventeen-year-old Beth who knows where. So she protects her mom at all costs. Until the day her uncle swoops in and forces Beth to choose between her mom's freedom and her own happiness. That's how Beth finds herself living with an aunt who doesn't want her and going to a school that doesn't understand her. At all. Except for the one guy who shouldn't get her, but does....

Ryan Stone is the town golden boy, a popular baseball star jock-with secrets he can't tell anyone. Not even the friends he shares everything with, including the constant dares to do crazy things. The craziest? Asking out the Skater girl who couldn't be less interested in him.

But what begins as a dare becomes an intense attraction neither Ryan nor Beth expected. Suddenly, the boy with the flawless image risks his dreams-and his life-for the girl he loves, and the girl who won't let anyone get too close is daring herself to want it all.
*******************************
Beth and Ryan are complete opposites. He is the golden boy and Beth is the girl from the other side of the tracks. When she is forced to go live with her estranged uncle in the small town of Groveton, KY, her path crosses with Ryan and everything changes. What started out as a dare turns into something so much more and neither of them are prepared for what will happen.

This book was fantastic! I could not put it down and I didn't want to. It was so refreshing to have the good boy fall for the bad girl for a change. I loved Ryan instantly. He was so sweet and kind and respectful even though he was the gorgeous, popular guy. Beth was more of a character that had to grow on me. She was so hard core and rough around the edges. The more I learned about her past, the more I understood her. She was definitely the character that really evolved through this book. Ryan really had to work on breaking down her walls and showing her that she could trust him and let him in.

This book was so well written and the plot was fantastic. Through out the book, there were little hints to Beth's past that kept me intrigued because they were never fully revealed until the end. I really wanted to know what happened to her to make her the way she was and the author did an amazing job of stringing me along to the very end. Ryan also had to deal with the issues in his family and the pressure from his parents to be somebody he wasn't sure he wanted to be.The book was so much more than just a budding romance between Beth and Ryan and I loved that.

There are just some books that get inside you and this was one of them. I fell in love with the story and the characters and couldn't get enough. I will definitely be adding this one to my favorites of the year and checking out all of Katie McGarry's books.

  2. I'm so envious you got a chance to read this early; it's one of the ones I'm really looking forward to this year. Pushing the Limits was such a great debut from McGarry that she immediately made my "Must Read" list :)
